Abstract :
From data transmitted by geophysicists after an earthquake, numerical analysts try to digitally model the whole phenomenon of earthquake related wave propagation. The aim is to better represent the internal structure of the Earth, and determine wat areas are most at risk, provide checkmaps (maps of maximum acceleration), etc.
Roland Martin (research engineer, CNRS), Julien Diaz (Inria researcher) and Pieyre Le Loher (Inria engineer) explain how mathematicians and computer engineers do their simulations at different scales, thanks to parallel computing and graphic boards processors.
