Abstract :
How can we visualise the microscopic deformations of a vibrating object ? The current techniques are often complex and expensive. The researchers of the ECHANGE project have put together their skills in acoustics, mathematics and computing to find a new method - cheaper and faster than laser vibrometry : compressed acoustical holography. By listening to the sound produced by the object you see its vibration better. This technique is based upon the theory of mode parsimony and on a mathematical theory - compressed sensing.
This cartoon helps us understand the principles of this method. (graphic creation and conception by Aurélie Bordenave)
